Emily and husband Colin have come to the French Riviera for what should be a joyous occasion – the engagement party of her lifelong friend Jeremy, Duke of Bainbridge, and Amity Wells, an American heiress. But the merrymaking is cut short with the shocking death of one of the party in an apparent suicide. Not convinced by the coroner’s verdict, Emily must employ all of her investigative skills to discover the truth and avert another tragedy.
I received this book from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review.
This was one of my most anticipated books this year. Not going to lie, I was super excited to read this book. And I was not disappointed.
Tasha Alexander can really paint a beautiful picture with her words. I could really put myself walking through the rain, getting soaked through the bone. Most of the characters were very well written and had amazing depth. There were a few people that I didn’t really care for, but that was mainly because they didn’t play a large part so they just seemed to be flat.
I hate to say it, but I knew who the villain was pretty early on in the book. I wish that there had been more of a surprise about the whole thing. And I wish that there had been less “Emily is the greatest!” and more suspense.
But overall this was a great book, and I can’t wait for the next one.
